Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using MeowPass ("the Service"), including the website at meowpass.dev, the MeowPass CLI, and the MeowPass API, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

MeowPass is a developer-focused secret management platform that provides:

  • Encrypted storage for API keys, credentials, and environment variables
  • A command-line interface (CLI) for managing secrets
  • An API for programmatic access
  • Team collaboration features with role-based access control
  • Environment file (.env) synchronization

3. Account Registration

To use the Service, you must create an account and provide accurate, complete information. You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the security of your account credentials
  • Safeguarding your master password (we cannot recover it)
  • All activity that occurs under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access

Important: MeowPass uses zero-knowledge encryption. If you lose your master password, we cannot recover your encrypted secrets. You are solely responsible for maintaining access to your master password.

4. Subscription Plans and Payment

Plans

  • Developer (Free) — 1 vault, 50 secrets, CLI access
  • Pro ($5/month) — Unlimited vaults and secrets, .env sync, API access
  • Team ($9/user/month) — Everything in Pro plus shared vaults, RBAC, audit logs, SSO

Billing

Paid subscriptions are billed monthly through Lemon Squeezy. By subscribing to a paid plan, you authorize Lemon Squeezy to charge your payment method on a recurring basis. Prices are in USD and do not include applicable taxes.

Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time. Upon cancellation:

  • Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period
  • You will not be charged for subsequent periods
  • Your account will be downgraded to the Developer (Free) plan
  • If you exceed free tier limits, you will retain read-only access to existing vaults until you reduce usage or re-subscribe

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Store illegal content or content that facilitates illegal activity
  • Store malware, viruses, or malicious code
  • Circumvent plan limits, rate limits, or access controls
  • Attempt to access other users' vaults or accounts
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Service (except where permitted by law)
  • Use the Service for competitive benchmarking or to build a competing product
  • Resell or redistribute the Service without our written consent
  • Overload or interfere with the Service's infrastructure

6. Intellectual Property

The MeowPass name, logo, website design, and Service code are owned by MeowPass. Your use of the Service does not grant you any ownership rights. You retain full ownership of all secrets and data you store in the Service.

7. Data and Security

We take security seriously. Our zero-knowledge architecture means:

  • Your secrets are encrypted on your device before reaching our servers
  • We cannot read, access, or decrypt your stored secrets
  • Only you (and users you explicitly share with) can decrypt your data

However, no system is 100% secure. We provide the Service "as is" and cannot guarantee that the Service will be free from security vulnerabilities. See the Limitation of Liability section below.

8. Service Availability

We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may temporarily suspend the Service for maintenance, updates, or security patches. We will provide reasonable advance notice for planned maintenance when possible.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. You may delete your account at any time. Upon termination:

  • Your access to the Service will be revoked
  • Your encrypted data will be permanently deleted within 30 days
  • We recommend exporting your data ("meowpass pull") before account deletion

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MEOWPASS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold MeowPass harmless from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service or violation of these Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in San Francisco, California.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice on our website at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
